Yoga and Health by Selvarajan Yesudian and Elisabeth Haich

Yoga and Health by Selvarajan Yesudian and Elisabeth Haich

Although young people may find this hard to believe, but people in America did not always know about Eastern philosophies and practices. Yoga has been known in the West for many years, but only to a select few.

It wasn’t until The Beatles took up meditation and flew to India to study under the Mararesh Mahesh Yogi that people in general started waking up.

When I bought the paperback edition of this book, yoga was still a weirdo subject, and I didn’t talk about it with my friends. But I enjoy reading about strange subjects, and I’d finished reading the ESP/Occult books in my small town public library, and worked my way down to the books on non-Christian religions.

The author opens with his personal story. As a boy he was weak and sickly, catching many diseases. He apparently survived only because his father was a doctor. At age 15 he learned about Hatha Yoga and studied under a master.

Within a few months he developed his body into one strong, flexible and muscular. He no longer suffered from disease. He left India and founded a famous yoga school in Switzerland. This book is part of his efforts to bring the teachings of yoga to the West.

He introduces Hatha yoga as a discipline to create health by bringing greater consciousness to our bodies.

The ancient yogis did not intend it to be practiced for its own sake. They just knew that sick and weak people could not focus their minds on higher spiritual disciplines, so it was first necessary to bring them good health. Remember that people in India would have suffered from food shortages, poor housing and infectious diseases even to a greater extent than they do now. For one thing, smallpox was not wiped out until about 1978, so countless people died of it.

However, those of us who are not seeking a higher spiritual consciousness can also use Hatha yoga to gain greater health, and this book is a terrific introduction. It’s what I used for years, as a little kid doing the Plough and Headstand in my bedroom.

The chapter “Every Disease Has Mental Causes” was far ahead of its time, and yet scientific advances have just confirmed its thesis that the body is weakened by negative thinking.

Women no longer wear tight girdles, but all of us need the chapters reminding us to breath deeply for our best health.

He described the asanas (physical postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) in a way easier enough for twelve year old to follow. I know, because I was twelve when I first read them.

And there’re many photographs to illustrate how the positions look when done correctly.

At the end, he gives a 21 week schedule to follow.

One chapter is devoted to slow motion exercises done in front of a mirror to help you visualize your growing muscles. While going through the motions, you tense your muscles as hard as you can.

Although I never practiced this very much, some fitness gurus swear by it, such as John E. Peterson.

In summary, this book is still a terrific introduction to yoga. It’s probably better to attend a class taught by a good teacher, but if you have no classes in your area or no time or money for them, you can’t go wrong with Yoga and Health.

‘His eyes tell me everything he wants me to do’: Escort who visits 93-year-old dementia patient for sex says they mostly communicate through ‘touch’

Every month Roger, a 93-year-old man with dementia, receives a special visitor at his nursing home.

Her name is Emma, and she happens to be a sex worker.

Their relationship is no secret to the staff or Roger’s children. In fact, they helped introduce them.

‘They roll out the red carpet for me, because they know the profound nature of this service and what it really means for this client,’ Emma told Morning Bulletin.

An sex worker named Emma has revealed that she visits Roger, a 93-year-old man with dementia, to provide him with intimacy and friendship (file photo)

Emma said she has become ‘very close’ to Roger over the past year, learning not only about his most intimate desires but also about his past.

‘We look at pictures – not sex pictures – of things he used to be interested in and we’ll have a tipple of his favourite drink,’ she told the Morning Bulletin.

But most of Emma and Roger’s communication is done through mutual touch.

‘It’s about friendship, social interaction, emotional outlets – but most importantly, it’s about sex,’ she said.

‘I look at his beautiful blue sparkly eyes and they pretty much tell me everything that he wants me to do.’

Emma said she has become ‘very close’ to Roger over the past year, learning not only about his most intimate desires but also about his past life (file photo)

Emma has been in the sex industry for more than 30 years and seen a number of patients who have disabilities.

And now in Australia there is an entire charity dedicated to linking sex workers to people with dementia.

Dementia has been known to affect sexual desire in patients, causing some to lose their sex drives while others may experience a major spike.

The latter may no longer understand ‘what to do with sexual desire or when or where to appropriately exercise the desire,’ according to Alzheimer’s Australia.

It can be especially difficult if that person has a partner, who may find that they have ‘unreasonable and exhausting demands’ when it comes to sex.

Roger’s children and nursing home both know about Emma and support her visits with Roger at the home (file photo)

That’s where Touching Base, an unfunded Australian volunteer-based group that helps people with disabilities safely connect with sex workers, comes in.

It is often a child or partner of the patient who makes contact with Touching Base.

President Saul Isbister said these carers must fill out lengthy special referral forms detailing the patient’s sexual needs.

The charity and its sex workers also make sure that the patient’s consent is validated both before and during the appointment, Isbister told the Morning Bulletin.

Touching Base has been working to help society recognise that people with disabilities still have sexual needs.

They continue to provide a referral list of disability-friendly sex workers and accessible brothers in Australia.

In our London Escort Guide, keep in mind that you can find here someone to practice many new positions. Think of Kama sutra (the book of love) for instance. While you are in bed with your favourite escort you can try so many new things and positions, which would probably be a taboo subject for your girlfriend. You can let all of your fantasies come to life; maybe even throw some S&M into it! It’s honestly all up to you.

Misguided trust – America on drugs

(NaturalNews) Americans currently spend over $2 trillion a year on health insurance, Big Pharma drugs, and medical bills. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, America’s health care costs will more than double in the next eight years. The United States of America is the most heavily vaccinated population in the world; and yet we are plagued with the highest occurrence of autism, diabetes and asthma in the world. With the biggest vaccine schedule on earth, we should have the lowest death rates and the best health. But the US has recently plummeted from worldwide ranking of 34 for infant mortality rates to number 41 – falling behind such countries as Croatia and Crete.

About 48 percent of US men and 38 percent of women can now look forward to getting cancer. Over eight percent of our children suffer from serious food allergies and nearly 20 percent are now on schedule II pharmaceutical drugs. One out of three adults and children alike are obese and another third are overweight. Heart disease, asthma, allergies, diabetes, mental illness, cancer, and obesity rates are spiraling upwards among every sector of the population. Is it coincidence that chronic disease rates are rising in cadence with our growing medical system?

Bottom line, Americans spend more for healthcare than any other nation in the world; and yet, we are not the healthiest nation in the world. In fact, we are sadly ranked at number 50 world-wide for life expectancy. So, with our sophisticated and expensive healthcare, where is our health?

Misguided trust – America is hooked on drugs!

America loves and trusts her medical doctors and the support system around them that is stealing their health and picking their pockets. America is the most drugged nation of the world and surprisingly, it is legal drugs that are the problem. It’s not just the psychotropic drugs and pain killers we consume like candy; it is also the Statin drugs, antibiotics, blood pressure drugs, sex enhancing drugs, OTC pain killers and vaccines that are also exacting a toll on our health. We take them because we think they make us healthy; but, to the contrary, we only take them because we are unhealthy!

We cannot afford to wait for medical science to stumble upon the pharmaceutical answers for us. For example, if we wait for the miracle drug cure for cancer while continuing to eat a trashy diet and live a sedentary lifestyle – the prognosis is bleak. Or, if we rely on the FDA to tell what is safe, while continuing to use products daily that have “FDA approved” toxins in them – we are only bailing out the boat without ever stopping the leak. If we swallow the fact that the EPA only allows 0.1 mcg of mercury per kg in our diet, yet we allow 25 mcg of mercury into our arm per flu shot, we will find out the hard way that there are long term consequences to allowing toxic metals into the body.

Can we really afford our health care – even if it costs our health?

Diet, exercise and stress reduction is the key to our health.

Over 90 percent of all heart disease and a host of other ailments can be avoided by applying these three things to our lives: diet, exercise and stress reduction. Taking the time and effort to live a healthier lifestyle will pay off in our quality of life and in our health – both now and later. And unlike the statistics above, preventive healthcare, natural medicine, and proper nutrition have all been linked to a broad range of health and social benefits, including but not limited to: disease reduction, increased academic performance and lower healthcare costs.

It is time to shift our misguided trust from medicine to healthy lifestyles. The best time to seek your health is while you still have it!

Reverse diabetes in 21 days or less – naturally

(NaturalNews) Diabetes is pandemic. This horrible condition effects 300 million people (worldwide) – eventually resulting in the death of one person every ten seconds. Conventionally speaking, modern medicine believes that diabetes is “incurable” but that’s simply NOT true. Simple lifestyle changes can help you eliminate blood sugar issues – forever!

On the next NaturalNews Talk Hour – a LIVE internet radio program – Dr. Gabriel Cousens will talk about how to REVERSE diabetes in 21 days with his cutting edge program of natural foods and lifestyle interventions.

It’s time to think differently about diabetes and experience a cure

If your doctor says “you’re diabetic” and “you can eat anything you want – as long as you take your insulin” – then it’s time to find another doctor. Why? Because any physician that ignores the opportunity to help patients change their lifestyle – as a way of overcoming disease – is (only) a sick care provider. What you really need is a health care provider that teaches you about the underlying causes of diabetes.

According to Dr. Gabriel Cousens, “Type – 2 Diabetes is a degenerative aging process that is a result of a hormonal imbalance between leptin and insulin; a metabolic dysregulation and a generalized inflammation. It also involves a genetic and epigenetic dsyregulation”. How can anyone possibly overcome diabetes without proper changes to diet and lifestyle habits?

Diabetes is NOT really a blood sugar problem

In truth, blood sugar is not the cause of diabetes – it’s merely a symptom of the problem. Most diabetics are creating a lifestyle of insulin resistance by consuming too many processed foods without essential nutrients and physical inactivity – which causes systemic inflammation, hormonal problems and chronic stress.

If you or someone you love wants to eliminate diabetes – look into green juice (spiritual) fasting; deep breathing exercises (mediation) and, most importantly, teach yourself how to let go of self-destructive eating habits.

If you want to learn more about an amazing “conscious eating” – diabetes reversal program – don’t miss our next show.

Five healthy lifestyle modifications that lower hypertension risk by two-thirds

(NaturalNews) Hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the most significant risk factors for cardiovascular disease, leading to an estimated 15 percent of all deaths worldwide each year. Excessive blood pressure causes micro-cracks in the inner lining of arterial walls, leading to a cascade of serious health concerns. In a desperate attempt to prevent a potentially deadly hemorrhage, patching materials are quickly pulled from blood circulation to repair the cracks.

While this may save your life in the short term, over the course of several decades, plaque volume increases until blood flow is cut off to the heart and brain, or a clot becomes lodged in a narrowed artery. Medical researchers have identified a number of important lifestyle factors that increase the risk for hypertension and have found that by modifying these actions, blood pressure can be returned to normal without the need for pharmaceuticals that are ineffective and wrought with deadly side-effects.

A research team from Finland reporting to the European Society of Cardiology Congress has found that healthy behaviors regarding alcohol, physical activity, vegetable intake and body weight reduce the risk of hypertension by two-thirds. They note that prevention of hypertension is essential to improving health and preventing morbidity and mortality.

Follow healthy lifestyle parameters to slash the risk of high blood pressure

The team identified five major cardiovascular disease-related lifestyle factors: smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, obesity and consumption of vegetables. Their task was to determine if correcting abnormalities in these factors could help predict the future increase of blood pressure and development of clinical hypertension. They developed a large cohort study including 9,637 men and 11,430 women, aged 25 to 74 who were free of hypertension during baseline measurements. The study lasted for 20 years.

The researchers set parameters for healthy lifestyle factors as follows:

1. Not smoking
2. Alcohol consumption less than 50g per week
3. Leisure time physical activity at least three times per week
4. Daily consumption of vegetables
5. Normal body weight (BMI lower than 25)

During a 16-year follow-up period, 709 men and 890 women developed hypertension. The study authors concluded “The risk of hypertension was only one third among those having all four healthy lifestyle factors compared to those having none… four modifiable lifestyle factors: alcohol consumption, physical activity, consumption of vegetables and keeping normal weight have a remarkable effect on the development of hypertension.”

The team found that the effect of lifestyle modifications was more pronounced in men than women, likely due to increases in alcohol consumption and a tendency toward obesity found within the male group. Most health conscious individuals live within the lifestyle parameters defined as healthy in this study, yet it still acts as an important reminder to remain vigilant at all stages of life to prevent hypertension and remain disease-free.

The most common lifestyle habits that create disease

(NaturalNews) Are you influenced by cultural bias and (unhealthy) modern lifestyle habits? For example, why do women wear bras? Are we lying “too flat” in our beds at night? Medical researchers suggest that these habits have the ability to promote sickness and disease. But, as we accept responsibility for our own health, and shift away from unhealthy behaviors – we can enjoy life disease-free.

We can stop Alzheimer’s disease, prevent breast cancer and promote optimal health by making a few (simple) changes to our daily routine. Disease prevention is easier than you think – providing we learn how to live in accordance with natural laws. A health alert to all women – wearing a bra can contribute to breast cancer

Although this may sound like a far-out, unconventional idea – many health professionals are beginning to think twice about the safety of a bra. The truth is that wearing a bra has the ability to easily block lymphatic drainage due to breast compression – which can lead to tissue edema, cysts and the accumulation of toxins. Naturally, if this toxic burden is not cleared away by the lymphatic system, these toxins can promote breast cancer cell growth.

Interestingly, after only a few weeks of NOT wearing a bra, many women report feeling less breast pain, swelling and cysts. If, for some reason, wearing a bra is a must (i.e. during exercise) – simply take it off as soon as possible. In addition, breast massage is a great way to improve circulation and reduce the risk of toxic buildup.

Poor sleeping habits can generate too much pressure on the brain

Everyone can agree – intracranial pressure, brain edema plus other brain dysfunctions, such as, migraines, stroke, sleep apnea, seizures and Alzheimer’s disease are serious health problems. To improve brain circulation – you may want to consider sleeping with the head slightly elevated. Medical anthropologist, Sydney Singer believes that “our culture has taught us to sleep too flat, and in the wrong position, and altering sleep position has already been used to treat or prevent sleep apnea, SIDS, and stroke, and our research has shown it works for migraines, too.”

Join Jonathan Landsman and Sydney Singer for an informative hour about how our modern culture and lifestyle habits could be putting us at greater risk for disease and how to protect ourselves from harm.

Sydney Ross Singer is a medical anthropologist, the author of several groundbreaking and controversial health books, and the director of the Institute for the Study of Culturogenic Disease, located in Hawaii. He is internationally recognized for his revolutionary and shocking research linking breast cancer with the wearing of tight bras, which he describes in his book, “Dressed To Kill”.

Trained in biochemistry, anthropology and medicine, Sydney is pioneering a new field of health research, called Applied Medical Anthropology, shedding light on the many ways our culture is making us sick. Since his work often challenges industries that promote or profit from damaging lifestyles, much of his research has been suppressed and censored, especially by the medical industry.

(NaturalNews) In its natural, healthy state, the body is detoxifying at all times. Breathing, digesting healthy, clean vegetables, using our muscles, or just being alive creates toxins in the body that need to be expelled.

With today’s typical modern lifestyle, toxins are accumulating in the body at a greater rate than the body can expel them. Not only do we have much higher levels of toxicity, many of the toxins are not normally found in nature. Once the body is in that vicious cycle of toxic accumulation, disease will set in, organ failure will eventually occur, and doctors will blame it on genetics or age.

Disease has one cause: cellular malfunction. There are two causes for cellular malfunctions: lack of nutrition and too much toxicity.

It is no wonder “detox” is the buzz word amongst the natural health enthusiasts and healers. The problem is, even amongst the natural health crowd, there is a tendency to eat poorly and detox once or twice a year with a juice fast or a smoothie binge, which is typically done in a way that feeds the body way too much sugar, which for most people completely negates the detox.

Now for the good news: your body can handle a remarkably heavy toxic load if you’re getting proper nutrition, enough sleep, your gut flora is balanced, and your gut is healthy. The human body is better off with lots of toxins and lots of nutrition, than it is without nutrition. This does not mean you can eat like crap and take a supplement and then expect to be healthy. Junk food robs the body of nutrition and it unbalances the intestinal flora, leaving the gut in dismal health. If you live under power lines, talk on your cell phone all day, type on your laptop for hours on end, and eat too much Fukushima, parasite laden sushi, you can still be healthier than most anyone you know if you do the following:

How To Detoxify With Diet

Produce detoxifies the body. This is especially true when it’s organic and raw. The trick is to eat a lot of it, to eat a wide variety, and to eat more vegetables than fruit. Make yourself a huge salad with 15 different vegetables and lots of herbs and spices like garlic, turmeric, cilantro, etc. Your base can be kale, collard greens, spinach, or anything leafy that’s not iceberg lettuce. Shred carrots, beets, and radishes. Don’t worry, we’ll have a link to a recipe at the end.

The thing is, all of those previously mentioned ingredients are known to increase organ functionality, build up optimum cellular function, prevent disease, and expel toxins from the body. Many of the vegetables and herbs can even dispel BPAs and other man-made toxins from the body.

We are supposed to eat a lot of produce. For many years, longer than we’ve eaten any other way, humans foraged for vegetables growing out of the ground. We would walk, all day, see an edible food, eat it, walk some more. It’s estimated that before we used grain agriculture we ate up to 8 pounds of produce a day! Meat takes a lot of effort to find, prepare, and digest. Fruits and nuts were seasonal, but herbs, leafs, and such are always just popping right up out of the ground. Other omnivores can be seen doing this, even wolves. They prefer protein, but they eat vegetables all day, too, in the wild.

Raw, organic vegetables expel toxins from the body in a multitude of ways. Eat as many as you can. Make a big salad every day.

Drink To Detoxify

Make yourself a gallon of cranberry stevia lemonade a day and drink it. If you can’t drink a gallon, don’t kill yourself trying, but most people can do that just fine. The lemon balances the PH and helps boost the liver’s ability to detoxify. The cranberry keeps the kidneys going strong. The water flushes out the body. There are many more benefits, but those are the biggies. Don’t use a sugar to sweeten it. Use stevia or no sweetener. Also, always use distilled water, or unadulterated, naturally mineralized water from a trusted spring source.

It is also important to note that the intestinal flora needs to be balanced so the body can digest and assimilate the nutrition. For more on gut flora, and detoxifying every day, click here. And see the salad recipe here. The first source link below has the lemonade recipe.

(NaturalNews) Odds are, the average person knows they have a lymphatic system, and that’s about it. You can’t blame them too much; the lymphatic system is complicated. It runs throughout the body, working side-by-side with the circulatory system, spanning various nodes, organs, and vessels in the body. If your lymphatic system isn’t working properly, it is unable to drain excess toxins and fluids from the body, causing problems such as swollen limbs, tonsillitis, lymphatic cancer, and other conditions. A working lymphatic system balances the body’s fluids, absorbs fat into your system, and helps your body’s immunological defense. Obviously, it is important to keep it in tip-top shape.

When your blood travels throughout your body, it releases fluid from the capillaries. This fluid, called interstitial fluid, provides nutrients and oxygen for the tissues as it flows throughout the body. In response to this generosity, the cells throw their garbage and waste products out for the interstitial fluid to pick up on its way back to the bloodstream. Luckily the interstitial fluid doesn’t mind this treatment and carries this waste back home to the capillaries where 90% of it is reabsorbed. The remaining 10% contains particles too large to pass through the capillary walls, so the lymph system swoops in and sucks it up. With the transfer to a new system in the body, the fluid also gets a name change. Now called lymph, this fluid filters through the lymph nodes and finishes its odyssey back where it started – in the bloodstream.

This process is critical, as the pile-up of waste in the cells can kill them. Without a flowing lymph system, fluid builds up and the body is unable get rid of waste. The waste and fluid itself can cause tissues in the body to swell and can lead to cancer, painfully enlarged organs, or infections throughout the body.

Lymphatic system and the immune system

A properly working lymphatic system is a great ally to have in boosting the immune system. The spleen removes dead cells and foreign invaders from the body. If you were lucky enough to keep your tonsils, these strategically placed lymph nodes provide a line of defense against possible throat infections. Adenoids are lymph nodes in the nasal cavity that minimize the effect of harmful pathogens entering the body. Perhaps the best evidence for the beneficial effects on the immune system due to lymph nodes is their command of lymphocytes, otherwise known as the all-mighty white blood cell. These cells, originating in the bone marrow, control immune reactions, fighting viruses and cancer cells. The lymph fluid relies on these cells to clean out toxins, before the lymphatic fluid is returned to the bloodstream.

Why should you care? If everything seems to be working fine, why fix it if it isn’t broke? Sure, you get that tickle in the back of your throat every once in awhile…but hey, my blood pressure’s great!

Congrats! But the lymphatic system is at a disadvantage. It lacks a large built-in pump like the cardiovascular system has with the heart. To keep your lymph fluid from achieving the consistency of cottage cheese and causing your fingers to look like not-so-tiny sausages, get moving. A lifestyle of transferring your butt from the car to the office chair, to the sofa in front of the TV decreases the flow of lymph fluid by 94%. Again, get moving. The best way to circulate lymph is exercise.

Get bouncing

Some of us haven’t jumped rope since that last time we convinced ourselves we would love that boxing class and collapsed halfway through. To get the lymph really moving, maybe give it another try. Bouncing is the best way to make your lymph happy. You don’t necessarily have to jump rope, but a good bounce for 15 to 20 minutes a day can make a big difference in the efficiency of your lymphatic system. Even if you don’t feel particularly bouncy, movement can make a big difference. Simple stretches, walking, and bending over to pick something up are all easy to incorporate into the average lifestyle.

Exercise is crucial, but there are others ways that also help your lymphatic system remove toxins and fight pathogens at peak performance. If you can’t miss that latest episode of your favorite TV show or your work necessitates lots of sitting, focus on your diet. The more clean (preferably spring) water you drink, the more lymph you’ll get flowing. Switching to a diet consisting of 80% fresh, raw, organic produce can do wonders for your lymph and health overall.

Try hot and cold hydrotherapy. It’s a great way to flush the lymph (see the first source below).

After all of that exercising, you deserve a treat. Guess what? Massage also helps the lymphatic system flow. If you don’t want to shell out the money for a lymphatic massage certified therapist, you could use self-massage to promote lymph health. Doing a cleanse can also help take some of the burden off of the lymph system, so look into detoxing or Candida cleansing.

It’s the season to make sure you take care of your sinuses, and stop that tickle in your throat from becoming something much more serious. A streamlined and fully functioning lymphatic system provides a great defense against common seasonal complaints. For more on the lymphatic system and how to detoxify, check out The Lymphatic System. It’s also crucial to clean the gut and kill off excess Candida for a healthy lymphatic system.

(NaturalNews) The old saying, “Whatever doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger,” may not hold true when it comes to chronic stress. Stomach ulcers were the first disease linked to chronic stress. It took many more years of research to learn that many diseases and health problems are linked to chronic stress, including the following:

  • Acne
  • Addictions
  • Anxiety
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Bone Loss
  • Cancer (due to reduced immune system)
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Digestive problems
  • Heart disease (stress actually creates plague in the arteries)
  • Infertility
  • Inflammation
  • Impaired immunity
  • Insulin resistance
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar)
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Memory and concentration impairment
  • Osteoporosis
  • Reduced libido
  • Senile dementia
  • Sexual Dysfunction
  • Stomach Ulcers
  • Strokes
  • Weight gain (stress encourages fat to be retained in the body, especially around the abdomen)

Scientific understanding of the stress response has improved a great deal in recent years, but there is still a lot that science does not yet fully understand. Physiological changes brought on by stress are very complex.

If you feel that your life is stressful and there’s no avoiding stress, you’re right. Stress is unavoidable. Life has a way of giving us ups and downs, and worse still, life has a way of kicking us when we’re down. We’ve all been there – when things couldn’t possibly get worse… and then they do.

We all have choices to make. How are you going to take care of your body? Will you eat the healthiest diet possible? Will you exercise? Will you get enough sleep? How are you going to react to life’s inevitable setbacks?

These choices are actually life and death choices. This may sound melodramatic, but it is true. Poor nutrition, lack of sleep, little to no exercise and giving in to negative emotions will send us to an early grave. We have a choice in the way we live life, and our choices become our reality.

If you cannot change your lifestyle to reduce stress, you can help your body to deal with it by taking care of your adrenals, your thyroid, and your gut. (NaturalNews) It has been proclaimed that we are at the peak of food production, and with industrialization, chemicals, and genetically modified foods choking the nutritional efficacy of the food supply, it’s time to get back to a better model.

Something as humble as a back yard garden, or even a patio container garden, can help us get back not only a nutritious food supply, but also, to regain skills and interactions that are missing from our current lifestyle.

Fresher, cleaner, and more nutritious food

The introduction of large scale farming geared towards world production on the shoulders of a relatively small number of producers, was a recipe for a degraded and highly travelled food supply. This movement virtually guaranteed that food quality would become compromised, and the people of this planet would suffer as a result.

However, if we get back to our roots and begin supporting smaller scale farmers or produce even a small percentage of our own food supply, we can start to alleviate the negative impact industrialized farming has created for our health. A planet with fewer chemicals, pollution, “strip mining”, and genetic alterations will undoubtedly make a positive impact for people, and this can be achieved through small scale food production that focuses more on local, cleaner and nutritious foods provided by proper soil stewardship.

Develops survival skills

Mention survival skills to most people today and their first thought is making it through the day without coffee and being forced to cook one meal a day on their own. Unfortunately, we have lost the skill set that would afford us the ability to adapt to any disruptions in our cozy little world, and this leaves us in a very precarious situation.

However, if you could pick up a single skill, a good suggestion would be the ability to produce your own food. With this basic survival trait and a small plot of land, any disruptions that will inevitably occur in the food supply won’t cause you and your family to die of starvation.

Raising plants is therapeutic

It’s no coincidence that both the planet and the people living on it are in need of massive therapy. The current health of the people is largely a microcosm of how we have decided to treat the planet, and the only way to remedy this disconnection is to get back in touch with nature.

The simple act of being at one with nature, raising plants in a garden, and physically connecting with the surface of the earth (also known as “earthing” or “grounding”) is extremely therapeutic and could provide that natural chill pill to our highly stressful lifestyle. Re-establishing this connection across the planet would create a less hostile society, and could even save the planet from impending political wars.

Sustainable and low pollution production

Industrial farming practices place a terrible burden on the soil, the environment, and food quality. The current state of food production is not sustainable, and the poisoning of our air, food, and water is a prime example of how we could be wiped off the planet a lot earlier than expected.

Small-scale production is much less intense on the soil, produces very little pollution, and generally results in higher food quality. This results in a happier planet and happier people living on it due to less denaturing of planetary gifts that are meant to feed, not destroy us.

Not only that, it is estimated that 40% of food in the United States today goes uneaten. This suggests more large-scale production is not necessary. Better food management is imperative. This can be much more easily accomplished with smaller scale gardening, due to better awareness of consumers’ needs in a smaller, more manageable environment. A perfect scenario would be producing our own food with the least amount of resources possible, which can be accomplished through innovations like the Food Rising Mini-Farm Grow Box Kit.

It’s clear. Getting back to a more agrarian society is required if we want to save the people and this planet.
